The Annual LaWanda K. Smith Scholarship Recipients

The LaWanda K. Smith Scholarship Fund announced the recipients of the 2017 awards to three deserving Astronaut High School students. Restore, Refresh and Renew Project

On Saturday, May 20, 2017, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, Iota Pi Omega Chapter, met at Endeavor Elementary Magnet School in Cocoa to perform their AKA 1908 Playground Project.  Despite the 85 degree temperature and early morning hour, the members came prepared to pull weeds, remove dead plants, trash and debris, plant new plants, trim hedges and put down mulch.  Within two hours, the flower beds were transformed.  The area looked amazing! The school principal, Sarah Mercer, was extremely pleased with the outcome.
