E.M. Williams Missionary Society 4th Annual Hattitude Luncheon

Christian Ladies with style profiled hats with an attitude of dignity and integrity on October 12, 2019.  “Missionaries Committed to Serve” was the theme for the 4th Annual Greater Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, E.M. Williams Missionary Society Hattitude Luncheon. The event was held in the Charles W. Jackson Educational Building at 2416 S. Lipscomb St., Melbourne. Mr. Joseph McNeil, Jr. was the Master of Ceremony.

Mrs. Willard Best gave the opening prayer and song which was followed with the welcome by Mrs. Pamela Hamilton. Rev. Ralph T. Newell and Lady Gracie Utendahl-Newell were presented and crowned Mr. and Mrs. Missionary King and Queen for the year. Each has given many tireless hours in mission work at Greater Allen Chapel and throughout their lifetime.

Missionaries Jeanette Brewington and Harriet Harris presented a humorous skit on the way modern day ushers break away from traditional Christian values: not wearing white hats, but wearing hoop ear-rings, and going bare legged instead of wearing white stockings, and sashaying down the aisles instead of marching with finesse, child what a shame, where is God with this new generation? We use signs to signal for envelopes etc. I gave a sign and they thought I was giving a blood of krypt sign or something: What’s happening to them? My Lawd! My Lawd! Don’t they know that ushering is missionary work too? Oh well! We got so training to do but right now, it’s time to eat.

Ms. Verdell Shackelford presented the parade of Hattitude with Attitude and this was a site to see as the ladies strutted their fashions with twirls and tilts so the colors would catch your eye. Oohs and Awes were heard as these presentations were made.

A Special Missionary Lady from Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church was presented the Community Service Award. Mrs. Lydia Carter was the Awardee. She, along with her husband, spends many hours cooking and feeding the hungry, nurturing and visiting the sick, volunteering at Daily Bread and meeting the needs of so many in the community on a regular basis. Mrs. Jeannie Hunter from Greater Allen Chapel’s Edna Jackson Food Pantry nominated Mrs. Carter for the Award. WMS President LaShandra M. Tucker-Abel made the presentation.

Special note: The Master of Ceremony Mr. McNeil also profiled a 10-gallon western hat. Mrs. Lutricia G. Laws, is the WMS Local Advisor and The Rev. Lorenzo Laws, Pastor. The Hattitude was closed with the Salutation inf Unison – “May the Peace of the Lord be with You and also with You, Amen”
