President Jacqueline Chandler
It is my pleasure to inform the Brevard community that Ms. Jacqueline Chandler is the new President of the local chapter of the League of Women Voters of the Space Coast. It is still incredible that even in the year 2019, we are still identifying “firsts”; however, Ms. Chandler is the first African American president of this local historic organization.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government that works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
Many of you are more familiar with Jacqueline Chandler as the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of I Am PROOF®, Inc., (P.R.O.O.F – Promote, Responsibility, Opportunity, Outcome through Faith = self-determination), a 501(c)3 group that gives pre-teens and teens the opportunity to explore their individual sense of ‘self’ through a 5-tier training and coaching platform designed to produce future leaders. The I Am Proof (IAP) program is taught at no cost to the participants; however, it is registered as a public charity, funded through the Hat Society and numerous dedicated community sponsors. I.A.P.s volunteer mentors and instructors explore positive ways to build strong relationships with our participants, as well as to explore avenues of trust while promoting individuals’ self-esteem, personal growth and responsibilities.
Jacqueline has been recognized for her dedication and commitment to the community by the League of Women Voters, Brevard Tobacco Initiative, and Friends of the MLK Library. She has received awards from F.A.C.E. Women of the Year, Space Coast National Congress of Black Women, National Image Award, General Daniel “Chappie” James, Jr. Finally, she has also received military awards that include Equal Employment Opportunity and Equal Opportunity Advisor of the Year, and United States Air Force Senior NCO, and Airman of the Year.
Ms. Chandler’s educational credentials are impressive. She received her master’s degrees in Human Resources Development and Training, and Public Administration from Webster University and a Certification as Instructional Systems Design Specialist (ISS) from TUI University. Additional educational accomplishments include Bachelor Science Degree in Business Management, and Sociology from the University of Maryland, University Park; Academic Instructor’s Course; Defense Equal Opportunity Advisors Course; Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Counselors, EEO Specialist, and Special Emphasis Program Managers’ Courses. She is also a federally Certified Mediator, Academic Instructor, Facilitator, and Trainer.
Jacqueline Chandler is a native of Knoxville, Tennessee and is retired Air Force. Jacqueline is married to Marvin L. Shelton from Terre Haute, Indiana. Their family consists of four daughters – J Renee, Nicole, Candace and Adrienne with five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
