The Spiritual Battle Is On! Believers Are You Battle Ready?

By Rev. Ralph T. Newell

SIN! Sin knows no color, race, religion, or religious denominations, has no boundaries, ethics, or morals, destruction is its mode of operation and evil is Sin’s game plan. God has warned us from the book of Genesis through the book of Revelation that there is a war between good and evil but right and righteousness will win. However, there will be battles to be fought before the final victory. I cannot do a full development of this in the Preacher’s Pen because of the space allotted but I will point out a few things that are essential.

Satan is the liar and author of SIN and entices Adam and Eve to sin against God in Genesis 3. They disobeyed God by choice. Genesis 4 describes how Sin caused Cain to kill his brother Abel because Cain was jealous. This pattern has continued throughout history. Therefore review what I stated in the first sentence of this article and connect it to the following scriptures and get battle ready because truly we are in a war zone.

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything to stand. Stand firm then with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, … etc. (Ephesians 6:12-14 NIV and read through verse 20).

The above scriptural reference pinpoints the fact that there are forces that are involved in the heavenly realm or in places that are not necessarily visible to us until the attack comes. November 5, 2017, Sin and Evil reared its head when 26 year old Devin P Kelley killed 26 persons at a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas and wounded 20 others. This appeared to be a Sinful Evil act. Yes he was killed but that does not right the wrong that was done. What about the ruthless attack of terror, in October, on the bike trail in lower Manhattan where Sayfullo Saipov drove a rented truck through innocent bikers and walkers and killed 8 persons and wounded several others? Saipov was wounded and captured. It is alleged that he acted under the guise if ISIS. Lest we forget the shootings in Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, The Pulse Night Club in Orlando and the AME Church in Charleston, S.C. and The Racist Events in Charlottesville, Virginia; this is still Sin and Evil which means Spiritual War.

The book of Revelation declares that this War will continue until Jesus returns to claim His Church. The question remain for believers to answer, are you battle ready? Return with me to Ephesians 6 and then let us peek at a few verses in Revelation. Ephesians 6: 10-20 and I point out pieces of armor for us to consider: 1) Belt of Truth = Jesus is the way the truth and the life, we have to have and live the character of Jesus: 2) Breastplate of Righteousness = your character is your defense, even in the face of persecution Jesus lived holy: 3) Shoes of the Gospel of Peace = proclaim salvation even while under attack: 4) Shield of Faith = your protective measure to continue believing in the power of God to keep you from losing faith while under attack: 5) Helmet of Salvation = protecting your mind and thoughts to maintain an attitude of salvation: 6) Sword of the Spirit = use the Word of God to fight your battle like Jesus did when Satan tempted him … see Luke 4: and finally 7) Pray in the Spirit = let the Holy Spirit guide your prayer life. You must remain faithful to God no matter what the attack and he has promised he will be faithful to you.

Now you will have to do some reading to see the outcome of the story of the victory for the believers who have endured the hardships and pains of the battles. Please go to Revelation 20 and you will see that the Devil or Satan who is the Evil one’s reign is coming to an end and Christ and His believers are going to reign forever. May God’s Power, Presence, Protection, Provision and Peace be Yours!
