U.F. Gibbs Fund Awards 3 Scholarships

By Ralph Newell

Three students who are pursuing academic excellence in higher education were recently awarded scholarships by the U.F. Gibbs Scholarship Fund, Inc. The awards presentation was held at the Golden Corral Restaurant in Palm Bay. Mr. Ronald Holmes presided and fifty persons attended the event to show support and encourage the scholarship recipients. The host and hostesses were: Mr. Foster Thayer, William Holt and Joseph McNeil; Ms. Ruby Jackson, Lessie Davis, Pat Whitfield and Harriet Harris. The U.F. Gibbs Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc. is named after former Stone Principal Ulysses Franklin Gibbs. He challenged all students under his care to excel in their pursuits in life, particularly in the realm of education and technology.

The 2016-2017 school year recipients formerly attended the Stone Magnet Middle School in Melbourne. Each received $1500 to continue her education. They were Miss Tabitha Kiera Hadley of Palm Bay, who is attending Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, Florida; Miss Imani Attallah Gillespie of Palm Bay, who is also a student at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, Florida and the third student is Miss Alisha D. Campbell of Malabar, who attends the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida. The awards were presented by Mr. J. Albert Diggs, assisted by Mr. Valene Croskey, Ms. Gwendolyn Clark, Ms. Earlene Shepherd and Mr. Anthony Jackson.

Mr. Lancent Clark Warren, the speaker for the event, is one of those who excelled.  He is a member of the U.F. Gibbs Scholarship Fund, Inc. He is a native of Melbourne, and a graduate of Stone Middle School. He is the son of Lois Clark Warren, who is a graduate of Stone High School. Mr. Warren said, “I am a proud product of Stone School and encouraged the recipients to set goals, manage their time effectively and to remember with God’s help they can accomplish what seems to be impossible.” Mr. Clark is a financial advisor employed by LPL Financial, Melbourne, Florida and has over 17 years experience in Investments.
