Veterans Day Celebration Macedonia Baptist Church Honors All Veterans
by Teri Jones
Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Melbourne, FL was filled with Veterans, family members and worshippers who came to celebrate a very special day of honor extended to all Veterans and their families. The 10:45 a.m. Service was presided by Staff Sergeant James Minus, United States Air Force (Retired). Upon his signal, Veterans marched into the sanctuary and stood proudly in their pew areas. The colors were posted and the ceremony commenced with prayer, offerings and a magnificent audio-visual presentation of Macedonia’s Veterans to the music of Ray Charles, song titled “America”. The sanctuary vibrated from the standing ovation, and the service was well on its way for several more unexpected surprises. Led by Lisa, the Hospitality Committee provided a decoration for kings and queens within the sanctuary of red, white and blue flags; and red, white and blue flowers in beautifully decorated vases. Through a combination of music, beautiful decorations and sharply dressed Veterans, the ambiance was set for the keynote speaker, SFC Tasha Q. Israel, to share her spiritual message.
SFC Israel’s words of faith, love, mentorship, strength, self-awareness resonated with the congregation. Her message of deep love for her mother and how her mother shaped her life’s decisions was also a message to the youth to respect, love and cherish their parents. She encouraged adults to form a circle of love and support around our youth and to be actively present in their lives. Through her many examples of challenges that she faced in life, SFC Israel summed it up to say it was her support system of family (mom) that kept her grounded and on the right track. SFC Israel also expressed her gratitude to the United States Army for her many opportunities to touch lives through her many speaking engagements and to also make a difference through her current job as a United States Army Recruiting Commander at the Melbourne Square Mall, South Brevard. SFC Israel addressed her humble beginnings growing up on a farm in Jamaica and shared that she remains humble and grateful today for the opportunities in her life that have moved her towards her true calling; to be of service to mankind. Her moving story brought tears to many and filled hearts with warmth and gratitude to our young speaker.
SFC Israel became an instant spiritual celebrity and gracefully extended her words of wisdom in the Family Life Center where Veterans and family members gathered to socialize, break bread and speak personally with the keynote speaker. It was truly was a Veteran’s Day program to remember. Happy Veterans Day to all who have served! May God walk with you daily.
