Rev. Ralph T. Newell
LOVE is one of your top-secret weapons to defeat the enemy. You may not know that prayer is the second top-secret weapon to bring you victory against the enemy in the midst of a fierce battle. I know, right about now, you are mad, angry as H… and ready to spit out bullets and fire and brimstone, but that is not God’s way. Yes, November 3rd is coming and your VOTE will count and count it WILL but your VOTE must be done deliberately with LOVE, and PRAYER to defeat the enemy. When I speak about the enemy, I am not talking about one person, I am referring to what Ephesians 6:12 lifts: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (NIV). And yes, this is the scripture which tells us to put on the whole armor of God so that when the day of evil comes you may be able to stand your ground, etc.
However, as men and women of God we need to be grounded in our faith and be able to stand firm not only in faith, but in LOVE and in PRAYER! These are two secret weapons that we often fail to use during warfare. Did you ever take time to listen carefully to Jesus’ teachings on LOVE! Love your enemy, Love those who despitefully use you, Love those who persecute you, pray for those who bring you before their councils, Pray for your enemies, Pray for those who hate you, etc. Why? LOVE and PRAYER are weapons of change. These weapons are more powerful that anything that the enemy has to use against the believer. Again, Why? God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the Heavenly Host are the enforcers of the Power behind LOVE and PRAYER!
I have to believe that you have been watching some of what is taking place with President Trump and the COVID-19 illness episode and you are entitled to your opinion. I remind you and us that God is still in charge and God is revealing what He wants the Righteous to see and do, so return now to Ephesians 6:14-18, let’s summarize: stand firm knowing what is God’s truth, and God’s righteousness, and God’s gospel of peace, be sure you have your shield of faith in place, and your head covered with the helmet of God’s salvation, and by all means keep the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God ready for action so you will not be deceived.
Romans 12 has a Word for us from age 18 to the oldest voter who will read this article: I admit, I have questions that for a few moments left me puzzled and then God reminded me, “don’t you know I am bigger than all of this craziness and absurdity! Even if you tried and all the other angry people tried, you couldn’t fix this, so go to My Word for words that bring answers and comfort and then God gave me this article.”
VOTE! LOVE and PRAYER are your weapons! Romans 12:1-2 “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will” (NIV). Please permit me to go to verse 9,14: “Love muse sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good” (NIV). “Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse” (NIV).
I want to close with the following declaration from Romans 12 from verses 17-21 and leave you with a couple of comments about how these weapons of LOVE and PRAYER will work if we let God be in charge. Now 17-21: “Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. (18) if it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. (19) Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘it is mine to avenge; I will repay’ says the Lord. (20) On the contrary: ‘If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.’ (21) Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil, with good” (NIV). The context of burning coals from Proverbs 25:21,22 means, if your neighbor needs hot coals to finish his meal you are to give hot coals to him with no envy or jealousy and thereby you will possibly make a friend. Other words, you have done your part and God will do the rest. My Brothers and Sisters VOTE, LOVE, PRAY, God will do the rest that is needed to change everything. I Pray that the Power, Presence, Peace, Protection, Provision, Prosperity and Promises of God remain with each of you, Amen.
