By Marcia Campbell
The Brevard Caribbean American Sports & Cultural Association, Inc. (BCASCA) held its annual “Herstory” Month celebration on Sunday, March 30, 2025. The event, which paid tribute to the achievements of extraordinary women throughout history and within the local community, was filled with inspiration, performances, and heartfelt recognition.
BCASCA President Ms. Marcia Campbell opened the program by welcoming guests and expressing gratitude to those who came to celebrate the contributions of women—past and present—whose selfless acts and unwavering dedication have helped shape a better world. She emphasized how women’s compassion and strength have ignited change across generations.

Ms. Janice Bispham, the event’s master of ceremonies, shared a brief yet enlightening overview of the origins of Women’s History Month, setting the tone for an afternoon centered on empowerment and education.
A major highlight of the program was a dynamic presentation by BCASCA’s Youth Group, who honored pioneering women who defied traditional expectations and broke down barriers. Through captivating performances, the children showcased the lives and legacies of influential figures such as Kalpana Chawla, the first woman of Indian descent in space, and Malala Yousafzai, the youngest Nobel Prize laureate and a fierce advocate for girls’ education. Their presentation painted a powerful portrait of resilience, courage, and progress, leaving the audience both moved and inspired.

The event also featured a vibrant lineup of artistic expressions including poetry, drumming, dance, spoken word, and songs performed by BCASCA members, supporters, and friends. Each piece echoed the theme of female empowerment and celebrated the diverse talents within the community.
BCASCA proudly honored two outstanding local women: Mrs. Barbara “Barbi” Miller and Mrs. Paulette E. King Morin. Both were recognized for their exemplary roles as community leaders, educators, and mentors. Their dedication to empowering others and creating lasting, positive change has touched the lives of many. The deep appreciation felt by attendees was evident in the heartfelt tributes from men, women, and children whose lives have been positively impacted by their guidance and leadership.

The celebration concluded on a triumphant note with the iconic 1972 anthem “I Am Woman” by Helen Reddy—a fitting finale that encapsulated the spirit of the day and celebrated the enduring power of female strength and solidarity.
BCASCA’s “Herstory” Month celebration served as a beautiful reminder of the progress made by women and the continued work toward a future of equality, inspiration, and empowerment.
