MIMS, FL. – The Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore Cultural Complex Board of Directors will host a living history presentation and civil war battle reenactment by the 2nd United States Colored Troops Living History Association telling the untold stories of the battles in which the USCT regiments engaged, particularly in Florida. The free event will take place Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore Memorial Park and Cultural Center in Mims, Florida.
Since its inception in 2010, the 2nd United States Colored Troops Living History Association has endeavored to preserve the legacies of the original soldiers of the 2nd USCT, their families and the countless others who supported the fight for freedom and the end of the tyranny of slavery during the Civil War era. Through participation in battle reenactments and other activities, the Association has been able to expand the dialogue and tell the untold stories of the battles in which the 2nd USCT and other USCT regiments engaged, particularly in Florida. The association works year-round, visiting schools, hosting and participating in cultural and community events, and engaging in seminars, research, and other educational programming to provide greater insight into the lifestyles and practices of the era.
“When we reenact, not only do we put a real face on the battlefield, but we are able to bring these brave soldiers’ stories to life,” says SGM Jarvis V. Rosier (U.S. Army-Retired).
