On December 19, 2024, the Palm Bay Panatics Steel Orchestra brought the spirit of the season to life with an enchanting performance at the Melbourne First Church of the Nazarene. Led by their gifted musical arranger, Stephan Massiah—who recently earned his master’s degree from the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT)—the orchestra captivated the audience with the magical sounds of steel pan music.
The steel pan, a one-of-a-kind instrument, has its origins in the twin islands of Trinidad and Tobago, where it was developed in the 1930s. As the only musical instrument created in the 20th century, its distinctive and melodic tones added a vibrant dimension to the evening. The Panatics delighted attendees with a harmonious mix of Gospel, Holiday, and Caribbean tunes, filling the church with warmth and joy.
This performance highlighted the enduring contributions of the Palm Bay Panatics Steel Orchestra to the community. Founded by Anthony Harris and supported by the Brevard Caribbean American Sports and Cultural Association (BCASCA), Pastor Tooley of the Melbourne First Church of the Nazarene, and a network of generous supporters, the orchestra continues to serve as a cultural treasure in Brevard County.
For those inspired by the captivating sound of the steel pan and eager to learn how to play, Anthony Harris invites you to reach out at 347-995-7685. The Palm Bay Panatics are always welcoming new enthusiasts to join their musical journey.
The December 19 event was more than a performance—it was a celebration of community, culture, and the unifying power of music during the holiday season.
